5 Kinds of Bunsik, Korean Typical Fast Food

If all this time you only know western-style fast food like burgers, pizza, fried fries, and so on. Did you know that South Korea also has fast food? This South Korean version of fast food is called Bunsik. Bunsik is a street food that you can easily find on the side of the road.

The meaning of the word ‘bunsik’ actually means food made from flour because around the 1960s, South Korea was experiencing a rice or rice crisis so the government suggested another alternative food, namely bunsik. However, along with the times, bunsik has shifted in meaning to fast food which is often used as a snack. Here are six famous bunsik in South Korea, namely:

1. Tteokbokki

This non-halal culinary is made from a mixture of pork blood. Sundae, aka blood sausage, can be eaten straight after boiling or usually enjoyed with a dipping hot tteokbokki sauce.

3. Odeng

This street food is made from eomuk (fish cake) skewered like satay with fish sausage or fish balls. This midnight snack is perfect to eat hot with the broth made from anchovy broth.

4. Ramen

5. Mandu

If China has dimsum, Japan has gyoza, then Korea has mandu. Mandu is indeed included in the dumpling category which is perfect to eat when it is still hot. Mandu has many fillings, from vegetables to meat. Mandu can be cooked by frying, steaming, even boiling to make soup.

6. Kimbap

You can find food that looks like sushi rolls in various roadside convenience stores. Some kimbap are in the form of rolls and some are in the form of triangles. Kimbab fans are usually school and college students because this culinary is very practical to carry and eat anywhere.
